“CG Gale” is the artist name chosen by Jeroen de Vries, with a wink to one of his favorite guitar players, JJ Cale. Jeroen started playing the guitar around the age of 18 and has been an autodidact  since. After his studies in agronomy he lived and worked in Latin America and Africa for over 20 years. Besides his work as a project manager he played in local bands in Peru in the eighties, had a small recording studio in Mali in the nineties.
Beginning 2020 he came back into the Netherlands from assignment in Tanzania and immediately entered into the  COVID lockdowns and his professional future depending on international travel turned into a question mark. He was 63 at the time…..

He decided to take up his guitar again after years of a certain neglect and took classes to improve his skills playing lead. Rapidly bored by the YouTube backing tracks he decided to make them himself. With the help of his first DAW he went back to the memory lane of tracks he played when playing in bands in the eighties. These tracks are inspired by guitar players like JJ Cale, Eric Clapton, Tony Joe White, Mark Knopfler and Ali Farka Touré. Making these backing tracks helped him to develop his own style which he names  “Lounge Rock”. Instrumental, danceable and laid back. The music you might like to hear in a beach bar with a sundowner at hand.

A first series of 13 tracks was completed in 2023 and resulted in a concept album named “Toddler” (just starting to walk). Drums, bass, rhythm  and lead guitar being the basics. That year he also started a training as a sound engineer and in 2024 he completed series of 11 tracks for the concept album he named “Kinder”. Like in the kindergarten: Walking, talking and playing but still so much to learn. On “Kinder” Jeroen started experimenting with synth arpeggios as the basis. All tracks are the result of improvisation sessions based on chord progressions of compositions from his favorite artists.

For 2025 a new album is foreseen where the integration of electronic rhythms as used in triphop of acid house is worked out further.
